How Pay by Bank Works

The standard Pay by Bank transaction flow includes:

  • Selection at Checkout
    The customer selects "Pay by Bank" at checkout in an app or online store.

  • Bank Selection and Authentication
    The customer chooses their bank from a list of supported institutions and securely logs in via their bank’s platform using standard credentials (e.g., password, biometrics, or PIN).

  • Review and Authorization
    The customer reviews transaction details—such as amount, recipient, and payment account—and approves the transaction within their bank's environment.

  • Direct Transfer
    Funds are transferred directly to the merchant’s account using established rails such as ACH, RTP, or equivalent regional networks.

  • Confirmation
    The customer is returned to the merchant’s site or app with confirmation of a successful payment.

Pay by Wallet

Accrue Wallet offers three variations of Pay by Wallet. This method enables consumers to pay directly from their wallet via card networks, debit networks, or bank rails, and can eliminate all transaction fees through direct POS integration.

Accrue Wallet provisions a virtual debit card that can be added to digital wallets like Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

Once provisioned, customers can tap to pay at any contactless-enabled terminal. Transactions are routed through traditional card or debit networks, depending on merchant system configuration and their payment service provider.

Accrue reduces transaction fees by:

  • Issuing debit cards, which have lower interchange fees than credit cards.

ACH with Pay by Wallet

  • QR code scanning at checkout

These transactions are processed over the ACH network, with support for both standard and same-day transfers within the U.S.

Merchants can avoid ACH returns by validating and authorizing payments through the Accrue API. Each ACH payment is individually originated and settled in full.

Integrated with Pay by Wallet Payments API

    • Provide Accrue with your merchant bank account. This will be used for receiving ACH settlements.
  • Integrate with Your POS or E-commerce Platform

    • For in-store POS, ensure your system supports custom integrations. Accrue credentials are configured and enabled as a payment option.
      Accrue provides integration support and uses its API to connect with your POS.

    • For online checkout, connect your Accrue account to your e-commerce platform using the Accrue API.

  • Enable Accrue Wallet Payment Options

    • For in-store transactions, merchants can offer multiple options:
      • Generate a dynamic QR code using the Accrue SDK in your app
      • Loyalty ID verification, such as phone number or email associated with the Accrue Wallet
  • Confirm and Track Payments
    All transactions can be tracked via the Accrue merchant dashboard or your POS integration, streamlining order reconciliation and reporting.
